Isa 6 is because of its place attracting our attention. It is regarded as call or mission report. But a Gattung of a text is to seek for in connection with its function in its context.
Although it is regarded as part of the so-called Isaiah’s memoir, which seems to be an independent composition, it is necessary, to find out its context; for the chapter is to differentiate in terms of themes and intention from ch. 7-9. Apart from these, a possible context can lie rather in ch. 5,24b-25 and 9,8ff. To these Texte inclusive of ch. 6 ist the theme “Verstockung” common. In this context ch. 6 makes good sense, as long as it sheds light on the question, why Israel under God’s anger had only so hardened to keep reacting to it.
But Isa 6 in its current Form isn't to think of as “einheitlich”. It should have experienced the historical growth. The reconstructed narrative consist of v. 1-11 (except v. 5bβ). As such ch. 6 concentrates upon the Judgement, what remains in spite of the second addition of v. 12-13 the same; the problematical phrase in v. 13bα, be?alleketh ma??ebeth, is here considered as status constructus: “at the Fall of a pillar of stones”. This representation ist to explain under the background of Josiah’s reform. V.13bβ is therefore in some other way read: “The holy seed is its pillar of stones”, i.e., Israel is in her land so felled as a pillar. There is no remnant-thought in Isa 6.
