This study aims to investigate the relationship between women’s attitude toward hairdressing and self-esteem, and examine the moderate effect of self-efficacy on those relationship. The participants were 355 Korean women whose ages ranged from 16 to 67 (M=28.47, SD=11.13). The psychological tests used in this research included the following: IS-item Attitude toward Hairdressing Scale, The General Self-Efficacy Scale, Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale. Results revealed that women with short hair had more difficulties in hair management and were more careful to choose beauty salon than women with long hair. Women with waved hair were more careful to choose hair dresser and less careful to choose beauty salon than women with natural hair. Women with colored hair were likely to use hair tonic or hair conditioner. Carefulness to choose hair dresser and beauty salon, and satisfaction of one’s hair condition had positive relations to self-efficacy. Carefulness to choose hair dresser and preference of hair conditioner had positive relations to self-esteem, while difficulties in hair management had negative relation to self-esteem. Regression analyses indicated that difficulties in hair management and carefulness to choose hair dresser were significant predictors of self-esteem, and yet the attitude toward hair dressing accounted for the only 4-5% of the variances. Although it was found that relationship between difficulties in hair management and self-esteem, and relationship between carefulness to choose hair dresser and self-esteem, were moderated by self-efficacy.
