Purpose : This study is a descriptive survey of the education for breast cancer patients by measuring nurses' education performances. Method : The population for this study was 28 hospitals with their ratio of cancer patients exceeding 1% of the entire patients registered by Korea Central Cancer Registry. Among them, 13 hospitals agreed to the survey of their nurses. For this study, a questionnaire consisting of 48 items was used to collect the data from May 12 to June 7. The collected data were analyzed using the SAS program for frequencies, percentages, t-test, ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test. Result : The results of this study can be summarized as follows; 1. Performances of nurses' education scored 3.39 and 0.74, respectively on average. The area of education performed most was selfmanagement, followed by treatment, disease itself, diet and nutrition, social and emotional area, and sexual life in their order. 2. As a result of analyzing the correlation between nurses' demographic variables/job attributes and their performance of education, it was found that the performance of education was higher in case of those nurses who were 26 or older, had worked for a year or longer, worked for breast cancer department for a year or longer, who were working for the hospital with the ratio of nurses to hospital beds 2:1 or lower or with a regular educational program operating. Conclusion : This finding suggest that is necessary needs to develop the nursing education intervention programs for breast cancer patients.
