"Sex trafficking" is defined as the purchase, sale, recruitment, harboring, the abuse of authority to recruit, transport within or across border, transfer, or receipt of a person for the purpose of a commercial sex act. It also includes the use of deception, coercion, debt bondage, threat of force for the purpose of holding such a person in involuntary servitude, slavery, or slavery-like conditions to force and coerce into labor. Research findings conclude that each year, more than two million women and children are trafficked against their will annually around the world, generally for the purpose of forced labor, domestic servitude or sexual exploitation. It has become one of the fastest growing criminal enterprises in the world having an impact on all nations. This is a new form of slavery due to poverty and greed and the price is based on the value of a woman's usefulness of her body. It is a 4 billion-dollar business, however, the women never see a penny. Based on existing contemporary literature, the paper sheds light on different dimensions of sexual trafficking in women. In includes the theoretical postulation of sexual exploitation, discussion on international pattern of trafficking in women, profile of trafficked women, effects of sexual trafficking on women, characteristics of traffickers, strategies to prevent, persecute. protect the victims, psychological healing of women, and the recommendations for new initiatives to eradicate the suffering of women due to sexual trafficking.
