This study is an investigation of nationalism movement developed by a large majority of Christians who were not involved in Shinganhoe.
In 1925 socialists started criticizing social functions of Christianity from angles of anti-imperialism and anti-capitalism. Anti-Christian Movement spread all over the country reaching its peak in late 1925 to early 1926. This movement soon withdrew when the National United Front appeared and Christians were involved in the movement. Christians experienced Anti-Christian Movement and they opposed ideologically. They started seeking a reason for social participation presenting the differentiation between Christianity and Socialism.
After mid 1920s, ‘Christian Socialism,’ ‘Social Gospelism’ were actively accepted in groping for a new direction of Christianity. Christians began developing an actual and long-term nationalism movement. In mid 1920s Heungup Club, included among them are men of repute, led activities of Christians. They led Diplomatic Independence Movement through ‘Institute of Pacific Relations’ and Fostering Real Ability Movement(實力養成運動) through Rural Work of YMCA. Suyang Dongwoohoe based on Subuk KidokKyo(西北基督敎) dubbed itself as ‘apolitical’ and developed national reformism centering around the members.
Also, the Jerusalem rally held in 1928 was a turning point of Korean Churches concerning social problems. After the Jerusalem rally Korean Churches carried out rural work on a large scale as a part of united movement. In 1929 was the formation of ‘Kidok Shinwoohoe(Christian United Fellowship),’ a concentration of Christian nationalism movement leaders. But Kidok Shinwoohoe did’nt progressed a lot due to the walkover of Subuk KidokKyo (西北基督敎). and uncooperative attitude of Kiho KidokKyo(畿湖基督敎).
