What is spirituality? The search for a definition is significant for children’s ministry specialists as they ask themselves whether to include spiritual formation and development as a part of children’s ministry and, if they decide to do so, how to do it. Unfortunately, it is not easy to find a clear definition of the term “spirituality.” Out of various definitions, Hay and Nye’s understanding of spirituality as relational consciousness is chosen for this paper. For today’s children, called Generation Z, who are accustomed to the postmodern construction of knowledge, awareness is an appropriate stepping stone to transcendence. As a way to improve children’s capacity for awareness, a teacher needs to present themselves as a facilitator and a model and create a safe environment for children to deepen their relationship with and consciousness about themselves, others, and transcendence.
