The purpose of this writing is to confirm the actual status of the early stage of Korean broadcasting drama through the script of Hyunhaetan Knows It All, the TV drama broadcasted in 1968. At the time of broadcasting, Hyunhaetan Knows It All had the pain and suffering of Japanese Colonialization period and cruelty of Japanese imperialism, and human nature that did not succumb to the oppressive ruling to be evaluated as the work product that healed the 'mental trauma' of the forcible colonialization of Japan. In particular, the work had the attraction that Han Wun-sa, who put an importance in communication with the public as much as its philosophical contemplation, expressed the noble love of human nature by overcoming the violence under the Japanese ruling.
Hyunhaetan Knows It All was able to take its place as the record of human victory for it broke down the conflicting scheme of 'Korea' and 'Japan' at a time when the wound of colonial ruling of Japan was still in tact completely with the confusion of view on values to work on normalization of diplomacy with Japan only for the economic consideration. In 1960s when there was a general perception of imaging the Korean and Japan relationship under the colonialization as mutually conflicting with the people and national ideologies, the writer Han Wun-sa broke down the conflicting structure to display his point of view on the world with having 'human' before 'nation' or 'people'. And, he provided through Hyunhaetan Knows It All an opportunity to look back at 'Japan' and 'Japanese' for viewers of the time who had yet to understand the pains of the Japanese colonial ruling.
In the technical aspect, Hyunhaetan Knows It All was the work at a time of transition from radio drama to TV drama, having characteristics of radio drama, an audio art, and TV drama, a visual art. In the technical aspect, the characteristics in transition from radio drama to TV drama would be the 'narratage' that combines 'interpretation' and 'screen view', and 'auditory montage' technique. 'Narratage' adds an interpretation to screen as well as sets a story by converting the time or place of the screen in meeting the context of the interpretation. The scene is composed while talking of the past time through the reminiscence of the main character. 'Auditory montage' is the technique to compose the montage by crossing different scenes in consecutive motion for making an implication in music, which was used as a way of overcoming the limitation of the scene composition in early broadcasting drama that had to rely on studio filming for it was physically difficult in conducting the outdoor location filming. Under the situation where the primary text doesn't exist, this study is expected to provide a clue to learn the actual status of the early broadcasting drama of Korea in its beginning stage.
