Alfred Hitchcock was a creator of suspense thriller and visually kept the tension. His directing methods were the mode of a suspense. It is the following:
First, like the defender of silent and black-white film, he experimented to describe visually than the direct express of dialog and maximized the strong contrast of lights. Second, it is the way of arresting a criminal in the course that a innocent person runs away and chases.
Third, it is the introduction of murder that surprises the spectators.
Fourth, it is the visual express of the voyeurism.
Fifth, one-scene one-cut provides the spectators with the important information of narrative.
Sixth, using the technic from extreme long shot to extreme close-up shot with the crane, he transmits the tension of plot to viewers.
Seventh, he gives rise to the acrophobia with contrast between maximum and minimum in a frame.
Eighth, he contrasts characters and close things in a frame.
Ninth, when the viewer knows but characters don't, he uses the effect of suspense.
This thesis is to examine the technic from extreme long shot to extreme close-up shot with the crane, the way of giving rise to the acrophobia with contrast between maximum and minimum in a frame, and the contrast between characters and things in a frame.
