A-hak Pyeon edited in early 20's - revised and enlarged in 1908 - is a collection of words for their transliterations into 4 nations' languages, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and English.
This thesis was to research into notations mainly written wrongly among ones of Japanese and Katakanas sounding Chinese characters of Japanese recorded in revised and enlarged A-hak Pyeon, and then to examine their reasons. In result, there were a great number of resonant sounds seen for the records of thick ones of Japanese as an original language in the case of reading Japanese - Japanese - recorded in A-hak Pyeon, and it was also found that prolonged sounds have been recorded as short sounds and some notations have been written wrong with similar but not exact Katakanas. And, according to the research into writing sounds of Chinese characters of Japanese, it also shows us a lot of examples of using resonant sounds in the places for thick ones again in the case of reading Japanese. Such wrong writings as noting resonant sounds for thick ones can be judged to be things written wrong by one who can't tell voiced sounds from voiceless ones of Japanese but speak in Korean. And another characteristic of mistaken sounds of Chinese characters of Japanese is found in some examples of uses in which short sounds are written for the places of sounds breaking-off and prolonged. It is estimated that this way of writing should be due to a kind of phonological phenomenon unfamiliar to Korean. As written wrongly any sounds of Chinese characters of Japanese else, they include some cases caused only by guessing assistant sound notes of similar Chinese characters and others by similar Katakana characters.
As mentioned above, sounds of Japanese and Chinese characters of Japanese recorded in A-hak Pyeon written wrong tell us the fact that there are such wrong notations from some differences of phonetical and phonological structures between Korean and Japanese as in resonant sounds and thick ones, breaking-off sounds (and prolonged), and so on, generally found a lot.
