In 1688 Chaozhou(潮州) Vessel was cast ashore in Jeju(濟州) Island on a way to avoid a wild sea state. She was a merchant ship for transporting market things among three provinces, Guangdong(廣東), Zhejiang(浙江), and Jiangsu(江蘇).
There were 63 crews and business people in the ship, mostly from Chaozhou, Zhangzhou(?州), and Quanzhou(泉州). Only 15 people on the ship could be rescued and lest of them were died by the storm before they arrived at Jeju Island.
The Chosun government sent Kim Jinam(金指南) to the Jeju, who were a government official and Chinese interpreter as well, then asked him to care the rescued and investigate the accident. Then a few days later the government informed the accident to the Qing(?) by a question paper via Seoul and sent the rescued back to Fenghuang castle(鳳凰城). The case of Chaozhou Vessel at Jeju was recorded on Subon (手本) written by Kim Jinam, Seungjeongwon ilgi(承政院日記) and Bibyeonsa deungrok (備邊司謄?) by written Chosun government.
