In East Asian countries, modernization was carried out and performed by the effects of western culture from 19th century. At the same time, traditional folk-culture of antiquity was transformed as modern contemporary ones and compounded with such western modern culture. They are two aspects of daily life culture in modernized East Asia.
In that process, national governments of all the countries leaded modernization and pursued compound of western culture & traditional culture. So, legal holidays are national symbols which call national peoples' mind the holy origin of each nation, ethnic pride and national identity. Even the historical real events to establish national government were described as modern contemporary myths. So, all the nations evoke patriotism and get national peoples' energy with them from the early period of modern ages to nowadays.
The purpose of this treatise is to search the features of legal holidays enacted by national government in East Asian countries. There are many differences between the features of each countries. In Korea, traditional festive days were restored, and the memorable days in which historical events happened were designated as legal holidays. Especially in Japan, such mythological memorial days as the day in which Tenno Zinmu's coronation was happened or living Tenno's birthday were designated as legal holidays. In China, historical memorial days as the day in which China communist party's revolution happened were designated as legal holidays.
At the result, there are two kinds of legal holidays. The first kind days are festive days as transformed traditional folk-culture and another kind days are historical memorial days in which liberation from imperialism, ideological revolution and establishment of constitution happened. However, like the traditional festive days, historical memorial days were also regarded as mystical ones. It is feature of East Asian culture that such meanings of legal holidays were really contributed to the pursuit of modernization and maintaining national people's unit. Such features of legal holidays imply East Asian's mythological thought & ritual process.
