This paper explores the structural Case realization in verb be and some intransitive verb constructions with predicate complements; especially that of NPs or adjectives in the predicate complement positions of the construe- tions. For the purpose, first, we assume that the constructions are 'cognate subject constructions,' since they are likely to have similar properties to those of cognate object and light verb constructions. Second, we argue that traditional accusative case might be divided into 'objectival accusative Case,' and 'describable accusative Case. The former, we might say, is one realized in the complement posi- tions of transitive V and P, which is similar to traditional accusa- tive case. The latter is one realized in the predicate complement positions of verb be and some intransitive verb constructions. Third, we accept T-association (Lee, 2001) and the hypothesis that Exp1. there has Case-feature, as another uninterpretable feature(Sun, 2002), as well as [person]- feature proposed by Chomsky(1999, 2000). If we accept these hypotheses, T in 'cognate subject' constructions is asso- ciated with V, so that a 'T-V' syntactic complex is formed. NP in the subject position, then, might enter Matching/Agree relationship with T, and NP or an adjective in the complement position, with V. If it is true, T might assign nominative Case to NP in subject position; while V (here, verb be or intransitive verb) 'describable accusative Case' to NP or an adjective in the predicate complement position, not nominative Case nor traditional accusative case. As a result, first, the problem that T assigns two same structural Cases, is solved. Second, the problem that T participates in two Agree operations in the analyses on Exp1. there construction of Chomsky (1999, 2000), is somewhat solved.
