This study empirically examined the role change of secretary attendant upon the paradigm shift into knowledge management and presented more important roles and core competencies of secretary suitable for knowledge management. The 23 roles based on the literature were selected as a role of secretary and a structured questionnaire was constructed to test the role change of secretary suitable for knowledge management. Internal reliabilities were also assessed of the factors included in the instrument. In addition, frequency analysis and t-test analysis was performed to find out significant difference attendant upon the paradigm shift into knowledge management.
The results of this study are summarized as follows:
First, the role as knowledge worker is required in order to play a key role suitable for knowledge management.
Second, the key role required for secretary is to be knowledge manager as well as performing the role of knowledge provider and knowledge consumer.
Third, the basic role of secretary is also important regardless of the paradigm shift into knowledge management. To improve the level of the role performance such as ‘information manager’, ‘project management expert’, ‘communication hub’, necessary competencies should be developed.
