Seoul Metropolitan Area comprising Seoul, Incheon, Kyonggi Province in Korea, where the half of South Korean people live and many information technology industries concentrate, could decide the spatial organization of Korean Peninsula after unification as well as the spatial organization of South Korea.
The purpose of this study is to suggest the environmental policy and urban management policy for the more competitive Seoul Metropolitan Area through the comparative analysis of East Asia Metropolitan - Tokyo, Beijing, Sanghai, and Bangkok.
The result of this study is as follows. First, the urban policy for the historical-cultural city, tourism development and IT industry is required. Second, it could be also suggested to give the urban related brand to the environmentally friendly industries and to make the surrounding of house beautiful. Third, the green zone planning should be established and the ring shaped loop road with green area be constructed. Fourth, for the mitigation of air pollution, had better be adopted the air quality information system, the installation of air pollutant purifying devices at cross roads, the use of natural energy such as solar, windy and biotic energy, and the regulation of passenger car in CBD. Fifth, the achievement of water quality standards at all waterbodies, the complete wastewater treatment, the recycling of used water, the seepage of rainfall into ground water and the network of water and forest should be considered in the water environment management. Finally is necessary the city of no solid waste generated, the adoption of industrial waste tax, the bioengineering treatment of garbage, the collective heating and cooling system by use of the energy from the incineration of solid waste.
The settlement of environmental problem of Kyonggi Province could make it the center of Asia toward to global city, the herb and the interchange center of Eastern Asia, It industrial complex and the cultural city.
