This study investigated the characteristics of disparity between autonomous districts in Seoul. In order to discover the factors that cause the disparity, 16 measurement variables such as residence, environment, economy, finance, public service facility, infrastructure etc. were included and utilized in factor analysis. Cluster analysis was also conducted to discuss disparity between the districts further. In addition, using regression analysis, the study examined the correlation on how the results of the factors analysis affect the disparities of residence environment, economy, and finance.
This exploratory study aims to make several important suggestions to resolve the problems of disparity between autonomous districts in Seoul. In order to alleviate the disparities, each autonomous district should have its own authority to conduct an establishment plan, and a Regional Infrastructure Plan must be established accordingly. In addition, there is a need for comprehensive management by local government. As an initial study on the disparities of a small-scale administrated area, this study defines the causes and characteristics of imbalanced development in Seoul.
