This study aimed to analyze the socio-historical change of recent times and modem times Courtdance seen in the mechanism of modernization, being based on the theory of civilizing process by Elias, in which he claimed that the human action changes according to a civilizing process and includes a socio-historical meaning. For this purpose, being based on the analytical frame proposed in the research of Elias, we used a both socio-historical and comparative methode of analyze, collecting materials of Courtdance over the last centuries, thereby analyzing and interpreting them. For our references, we used archives and private interviews as a first order materials and related articles and performance annuls as secondary resources, concluding as follows.
First, after the emancipation, Courtdance established a national organization under the catch phrase of "nationalization", continuing a touring performances controlled by itself and regulated by government at the same time, and further it showed a socio-historical transformation oriented toward an unification of korean dance in general.
Secondly, a court dance as a civilizing process in a mechanism of "nationalization" not only strived to preserve and succeed the tradition but also entered into a new civilizing process of "globalization" as an integrated unit in a close connection with creative dance.
