The purpose of this study was to understand the meaning of tradition that identified by the initiated of traditional martial arts. To achieve this purpose, a qualitative case study was used. Participants of this study were six experienced(27-45years) martial arts trainers, they were representatives or administrators in each organization. The initiated of traditional martial arts identified the characteristics of time, modem and authenticity as the specific characters of traditional martial arts. First, the characteristic of time of traditional martial arts accompanied the characteristics of duration and consistency. Second, the characteristic of modem contained the characteristics of popularity and utility. And third, the characteristic of authenticity concurred with the characteristics of variableness, acceptability and subjectivity. These findings showed that the meaning of tradition to prescribe and define the traditional martial arts was very multivocal and its use was arbitrary in each and every organization.
