The purpose of this research is to recognize the physical problems of middle-aged women and to find healthy sports for their body strength and bone density. Middle-aged women in forties and fifties are experiencing a remarkable health and body strength decrease caused by the deficiency of physical activities. This research performed dance sports to the middle-aged women. The intensity of dance sports can be controlled by each individual and her partner's health condition, and women can use all the body without excessive movements. Housewives in their forties -the users of 'Welfare Center' in D area, T city - were the objects of this research. The research was performed to seven experimental group and seven comparison group.
The statistic result of this experiment calculated the average of each survey item and the standard deviation using spss 10.0 statistics program. Two way repeated ANOYA was used to verify the significant differences between before and after the experiment.
The group and period were used as two independent variables in ANOYA. When any reciprocal action occurred between group and period, Turkey was applied as post-verification. The guideline of significant difference was 5%.
The results of the experiments are followings.
1. In the aspect of body strength, muscle power, flexibility, and muscle endurance power increased significantly(P<0.05), and cardio endurance power showed lower value after the experiment. But the cardio endurance power value was not significant level.
2. Body fat rate showed the decrease in both groups, but there was not significant difference. The thickness of subcutaneous fat in brachial triceps, thorax and crus showed significant differences(P<0.05), but it was not enough to present settled change pattern.
3. In the aspect of wrist bone density, there was significant increase (P<0.05) after the experiment.
The above results indicate that a 12-week dance sports performance gave positive effect on the middle-aged women's body strength and bone density, and that dance sports can be suggested as an adequate healthy sports program for them.
