The study reviewed the changes of oversea shrines (JinJa) caused in conjunction with the expansion of colonial ruling of Japanese imperialism. Oversea shrines refer to Sapporo shrine in Hokkaido (year of 1871), Taiwan shrine in Taiwan (year of1901), and Garahuto shrine of Sakhalin (year of 1911). The gods of these oversea shrines were gods who created the related lands. In 1912, the Josun Government-General planned to build an oversea shrine in Josun, 「Josun Jingu」. The construction plan for Josun Jingu was completed and the construction work started in 1912. But the problem was 「god」. It was a tradition that oversea shrines enshrine 「Three Pioneering Gods」. In other words, there was a tradition saying “oversea shrine equals Three Pioneering Gods” established. Shinto scholars insisted that a god who had a deep historical relation with Josun should be selected following the tradition. As to the fact that the Josun Government-General decided Amateraseu Omikami and Meiji Emperorto be the gods of Josun Jingu, Shinto followers, Asijeu Gojiro, Imaijeumi Deiseuke, Gamo Momoki, and Hida Gageyuki argued that Dangun, the founder of Josun, should by all means be worshiped. After all, the meaning of three pioneering gods was interpreted to be succeeded as 「national spiritual god」. Amateraseu Omikami maintained that the 「national spiritual god」 possesses the fundamental characteristics of three pioneering gods, thus 「national spiritual god」 should be worshiped. Eventually, it became to be interpreted as national spiritual god and three pioneering gods and the argument to worship Dangun naturally disappeared. It turned out that the argument to worship Dangun as the god of Josun Jingu in addition to Amateraseu Omikami and Meiji Emperor and the argument made by Shinto scholars of Japan to worship Tangun, the national foundering god of Josun, mean the worship for Dangun in terms of preservation of tradition. Josun Jingu also turned out to be in line with the assimilation policy.
