Arboretums created recently function as habitats and eco-tour destination, which is much beyond as a site for observation and learning - the traditional function of arboretum. In this context, Asan Yeongin Mountain Arboretum aimed to crate various spaces and offer programs for environment education, ecological experiences and recreation by conservation and restoring the current natural resources. To this end, status survey and analysis, space zoning, landscape plan, ecological plan, plantation plan, facility plan were developed for a targeted site. In addition, as a space for theme park 11 spaces have been set. Forest fire prevention plans were also developed.
As for specific concepts and plans, a space concept using the existing topography was developed and divided into landscape district, activity and exhibit district, native history district, training district and natural forest district. Landscape plans, ecology plans, plantation plans and facility plans were also developed. In addition, as for deployment of spaces, an information center as a vine center for restful and romantic atmosphere, Yeongin Hall and Azalea Hall as main halls of the arboretum, a main theme garden on a theme of didgi, Yeongin Garden as a Korean Garden, a maze garden, ecological wetland garden, apricot garden, learning center district, wild flower hill, Yeonginsan and training district were placed. Lastly, based on the past forest fire experiences, fire-resistant forest zone was set up to prevent forest fires in the future.
The feature of this study is the space planning of an arboretum has been driven by an ecological plan together with a landscape plan.
