“Hsiao?yao” was not only a description for spiritual liberty and ideal confines but also a core meaning and creed philosophical thinking of Chuang?tzu. Chuang?tzu interpreted that “hsiao?yao” meant to a subjective sphere, he emphasized that people should eliminate his clinging for life and body, in stead, stand his selfhood aloof from physiology materials, and banish the chasm of the relationship between beings as well as that of objects, and then make self?spiritual shake off the cord of materials. Reaching the confines of “wu?tai” and “hsiao?yao”; thus, comparing the metaphysic confines and the spiritual sphere to the concrete and objective life between human and the universe, the later was apparently not the focus that Chuang?tzu had paid attention. That Chuang?tzu had tried so hard to extinguish?the external life and the universes, were certainly not the core of Chuang?tzu’s thinking, yet, how he regarded the progress of life and the relationship between human and the universe, was the origin theory of ”hsiao?yao”. It could be the prove of the theory foundation by defining the object that Chuang?tzu tried to eliminate.
We can reaching a different physiognomy for the confines of Chuangtzu’s “hsiao?yao” through his point of view for body and materials.
The topic of this thesis is based on Chuang?tzu’s thinking of “Biothanatology”, which interpreted his cognition and attitude towards life, in order to reveal such point of view, this thesis also dwelt as follows: first, explaining the beginning of universe and life from Chuang?tzu’s vision, Through that, analyzing his view for entire life. Second, comparing the difference between human and other species form the forming process of the universe, through the differences, to probe into the relationship between life itself and external environment, and to interpret the existence of the appearance and essence of life. Finally, tries to seek Chuang?tzu’s attitude towards the entire life according to his explanation for the shape of life, to form his theory of “Biothanatology” based on human beings, as a result in understanding the pursuit of life meanings of Chuang?tzu.
