This study is concerned with the pedestrian crossing possibility affected by the traffic flow which is controlled by traffic signal system. It is intended to indentify methods by which some pedestrian crossing possibility could be achieved with safety and ease, without interfering the total traffic flow.
The conclusions are as follows :
First, the pedestrian crossing possibility can be found in any traffic control system. This possibility is principally affected by the operation of traffic control system, simultaneous one or alternate one, and the location of pedestrian crossings.
Second, the signal phase of pedestrian crossing cannot be arranged without solving the problem caused by the length of the vehicle queue and the resolving time between the pedestrian crossing and the backward intersection.
Third, the location and the signal phase of pedestrian crossings are closely related with the distance between intersections.
Fourth, it is likely to develop a traffic control system which can satisfy the pedestrian crossing requirement as well as the vehicle flow.
