The metamorphosis of city center is controlled by countervailing forces, namely a contrifugal force and centripetal force.
The purpose of this study is associated with two aspects. One of which, is to search out the growing mechanism of the CBD of the city of Inchon as the prominent part of city center, by analyzing the process of its growth. And the other is to give a guideline on the practical arrangement project in CBD area.
One of the major points in this study, shows that if the activities required of the CBD function are focused on the central part of the CBD, the CBD metamorphosis itself will change in accordance with its own metamorphosis of the central part.
In other words, a metamorphosis of a CBD, shows that a variety of CBD activities is brought forth by the competition for a site around the kernel within the CBD and the spatial extension of the CBD boundary is resulted by the activities lost in the competition. And the activities once superseded in competition will compete again each other and the variety of the conflicting activities get evermore diversified.
