Row-house reconstruction projects, being scatterd in built-up area and targeted to high-density, generates many urban spatial structural problems. This study, to define these problems and seek solutions, proceeds as follows.
First, it reviewes general characteristics of current row-house reconstruction projects and analyzes locational characteristics of 61 projects.
Second, it categorizes these projects into five category by three factors; the landuse of surrounding area, block pattern and the hierarchy of adjacent road.
Third, it selects five case study areas that represent the five category above respectively and then analyzes more specific problems and try to suggest the solutions.
Finally, this study revealed that the problems of row-house reconstruction projects are 1)limitation of project size, 2)discordance with surrounding area, or violation of residential environment, 3)establishment of public facilities, 4)correspondence with changing urban structure, and then articulated the approach to row-house reconstruction in perspective of urban planning not a individual project.
