The concept of quality of life emerged during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s when the urban problems and environmental crisis became a major national issue. The urban QOL has come to mean livability in urban areas. Research interest in urban QOL focused on the livability comparisons among areas to find out the residential mobility based on the differences in amenity quality.
It is assumed that rational individuals will trade-off income for increased QOL consumption via geographical mobility. As a consequence, the changes in urban QOL have an important influences on the household’s decision to move. The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship QOL and urban growth during the period 1970-1990.
According to the analysis by standard index, the level of QOL in metropolitan cities deteriorated while that of intermediate cities improved. As a whole, there revealed somel positiile relationships between urban growth and economic quality changes while negative ones between urban growth
