Kim. Jo-Kyu’s general poetic aspect is not be grasped, yet, for a certain reason , though Kim. Jo-Kyu is a poet who has sought a great variety of poem, and presented potentialities of development about the history of national literature from several varieties changes. So that, this thesis try to inquire how important it is in author's literature and even all national poetical development that the change of motif and consciousness in his works which been wrote before liberation. This thesis will combine the methodology of sociology and structure to study Kim. Jo-kyu’s works.
As a result, Kim. Jo-Kyu’s early works has a definite critical thought about irrationality of colonial society of Japan, though his understanding is still not specific enough about realistic contradiction. And the understanding of realistic criticism become known by losing and missing about home. In his works the person who losing home symbolize the peoples' wandering of colony, and his real intention is showing human's experience and grief of losing motherland. By and large, author's nostalgia for “mother” is expressed by his concern for women. And poet's understanding about the darkness of reality is expressed by his choice about poet language.
Next, his writing during child times points at the world of surrealism which denies existing morals, and even accompanies foreign situations. Based on this kind of ideal, he shows more diverse technique and more effective artistic ideation. In poet's works during this time, there are many poetical objects such as night, sea, woman, cigarette smoke, window, gloaming and so on. So this kind of view make poet's world become deeper and larger that also become poet's valuable experience in his writing. But, they’re different from the works of before period which western European women were realized like the exit of ideal space. Through the Western European they poetrize the reality of colonial homeland which was deprived all power because of lost dream and country.
His writing in Manchuria is different form child times. He become pay attention to the actual contradiction, and bear a realism character. It's also pained author as sickness, though the country is just lost hometown. And the main writing material during this time is needy and oppressive actual contradiction. And also, we can find that during this time, he point up the situation of land than the situation of the sea, as well as the foreign atmosphere become more important than before. We can see that the author's disordered ideology from several contradictions. For example, in his poems, severe criticism for national contradiction mixed up with personal wandering and decadent ambience.
On all accounts, through the works that written before the liberation, Kim. Jo-Kyu is not only a poet that show clearly situations of dark age by his writing, but also will offer important bases in researching other poets and their writing of this age.
