This paper aims searching the characteristics of korean case by accounting for case of the nominals without the case particles(I’ll call these the bare-nominals).
First of all, I began this paper with investigating the mistakes of two opinions on case of the bare-nominals. The first opinion that the bare-nominals are the forms which have undergone the ellipsis of the case particles has a mistake that a sentence meaning before the ellipsis process is different with a sentence meaning after it. Because this opinion has not recognize the fact that the case particles have the inherent lexical meaning and pragmatic functions, and has not discriminate the case and the grammatical relations in category.
The second opinion that regards the bare-nominals as the form that have the abstract cases and the case particles have not realize syntactically has two matters. The one is that it founded the structural cases without the bases of establishment. The other matter is that has not discriminates the inherent case and θ-role in category. Because
I propose that the bare-nominals have no case. This proposal is based on the fact that the nominal with case particles and the bare-nominals is not in opposite relations. The bare-nominals have the different sorts of syntactic-semantic relations from the different contexts but on the other hand those have the inherent syntactic-semantic relations. This fact means the bare-nominals have not case because the nominal with a case particle marks a inherent syntactic-semantic relation.
