This is a part of study series on changing patterns of labour force and estimate of future labour force populations in Korea. We have estimated future population and constructed series of life tables which will be the basis for calculating labour force participation rates both past and in the future.
The table of working life provides an effective summary of the pattern of labor force participation of the country. It gives not only a measure of the average length of working life but is also the measure of the conditions of entrance to and separation from labor force activities. It will be well taken as one of the most useful demographic tools for anal yzing the dynamics of the labor force. By wolfbein-Wool's method abridged working life table for Korean males for 1970 was constucted using data of the stable population of 1970 life table and the annual report on the economically active population published by Economic Planning Board. Some of the findings may be summerized as follows.
1. Economic acitivity rate of male population is 74.8%
2. Expectation of labor force life at age group of 15-19 is 40.52
3. Average rate ef entries into the labor force is 0.41078
4. Average rate of net separation from the labor forces is 0.2624
As shown of Fig.1, the age specific economic activity rate in Korea shows the same trend of developed countries, though the rate is low. The difference. between average remaining active years and expectation of life at age 15 is 13.5.
