It is an important issue that the people of Old Chosun didn't create Xiajiadian culture, Lower stratum.
Xiajiadian culture, Lower stratum is distributed widely from the region of Jeokbong to Bo Hai(Gulf of Zhili). There exist major sites such as the site of lower stratum in Jeokbong, the site of Yakwangmyo, the site of Jijusan, the site of Daejeonja in Ohangi, the site of Namsangeun in Yeongseong and Pungha. The dwelling site, the ash-pit, the tomb and the fortress are excavated in theses sites.
There seem to exist many huts in the dwelling sites and the tomb are all pit tombs. The excavated number of tombs in the site of Dajeonja is 408. Most of the tombs have niche and the bones of pig and ceramics are buried in them.
Many relics such as stone tools, ceramics, bone tools, oracle tools and bronze artifacts are excavated in Xiajiadian Culture, Lower Stratum. Especially, oracle tools are excavated in the most sites. The predominant relics is ceramics. The best notable feature of ceramics is that it is a jug decorated with patterns on the surface of it.
According to radiocarbon dating technique, the dates of the site of Jijusan, Sucheon and Daejeonja in Xiajiadian Culture, Lower Stratum are revealed as BC 2410±140, BC 2180±100 and BC 1695±135, respectively.
Comparing Xiajiadian Culture, Lower Stratum with Godaesan Culture closely related with Old Chosun, there are differences in the type of the tomb and burial, and ceramics between the two cultures. The results of this study show that there is not a direct connection between Xiajiadian Culture, Lower Stratum and the culture of Old Chosun.
