This paper is aim to analysis the 「A dream and a actuality(?과 現實)」, 「The severing relations(絶緣)」, 「A genuine news in the bell(방울 속의 참 消息)」, 「A prostitute(淪落女)」. The contents of this dissertation can be summarized as the followings.
1. The intellectuals in the early intellectual novels of the Um’s are the persons having the firm belief to out on an individual security. The other side, his wife marginal man outside the intellectuals is the person flowing and faulting, the subject restoring and improving.
2. 「A dream and a actuality」 brings up the causes an individual security and the intellectuals' society responsibility sense parted, and shows the intellectuals' the original desires. The outset in this novel shows the former times' condition of two parts' separation. This is the common desire of the his and his wife’s. The intellectuals want two desires' coexistence.
3. 「The severing relations」, 「A genuine news in the bell」, 「A prostitute」 show the method, the intellectuals do not libel the his self-consciousness make the coexistence of two parts when the harmony of two desires ravaged. Differently with the former two monels, 「A genuine news in the bell」, 「A prostitute」 have the wife as a heroine and a focus teller. The form the reader following the wife’s awakening process is the strategy that the intellectuals show off attending on the society responsibility sense purity and obtaining an individual security in secret.
4. The intellectuals in Um’s early novels has the concern to the intellectuals' pose the other recognizing. Therefore, these 4 novels are not the patriot intellectuals novels, are the novels that the writer’s desire intending to an individual security in secret influenced.
