The purpose of this study is to re-structuring of the exhibition space plan for the museum, and as a part of background study of its early stage, the index for the calculation of exhibition space of museum is set on the basis of the data, exhibition type and exhibition data and structure the planned data on the calculation method in a way to formulating the appropriate index for size calculation and systematize the priority sequence when applying the planning.
The research method and procedure are as follows. First, the characteristics of shared space is studied for the exhibition based applicable for the data genre, and describe the characteristics of data based on the exhibition space in diverse angle. Together with this, the procedure method to approach to the size calculation from the exhibition space of museum and the index that has the mutual relativity are compared and analyzed the present the planned indices (Range of compared data for area of each part of museum, exhibition density by the exhibition mode of each genre and each exhibition form of exhibited data, exhibition characteristics following exhibition operation form, and exhibition density for each genre of data through the characteristics analysis) to make the reference under the size plan, and the indices for size calculation shall be set in various angles to make systematization. In the approach of size for exhibition space in museum, the subject of data (human or data) has to be more important than the physical factors that, under the current point of time, when the size plan is made, there is an urgent need for index system for space size, and in the future, there has to the differentiated, concrete and detailed size plan for each preservation environment and characteristics for each museum type or for each type. The size plan for exhibition space has the diversity of data, complexity of classification system and respective characteristics that the uniform index system would not be able to calculate the appropriate size to satisfy the internal condition and functions of the museum data. Because of the fact, the size calculation has to be made by the approach method in diverse angle rather than applying the limited and uniform index.
