Korean economy has been grown very rapidly during the past three decades, and the main strategy was to develop selected areas as growth-poles. Consequently, unbalanced economic growth has been emerged among different regions. This regional unbalanced economic growth has various negative impacts such as rapid increase of regional migration. From the point of economic and social dualism parallel with the rapid industrialization in the past three decades, the internal migration deepen income dispartity among regions, and reduce economic efficiency as a whole.
The main objective of this study is to develop an input-output model to suggest long-run economic policy for Kwangju area. This is done by constructing the model through the estimation of structural interdependence among various sectors. The specific objectives of this study are; It is to estimate sectoral outputs, employments, income multipliers, and forward-backward linkage coefficients and to find out the roles of oil-chemical and machinery & equipment industry in the growth of Kwangju area through estimating their impact on the region's economy and to suggest policy implications to improve industrial structure in K wangju area.
