Recently, the number of Korean young students who study abroad has been Two reasons are discussed for this phenomena. Globalization is the structural condition in which Korean students pursue the English fluency and the educational credit of the world-leading countries such as the United States. Internally, high competition for the colleges in Korea is the other reason for the increase of studying-abroad students. However, they do not possess the proper attitudes about the globalization. They have transnationalistic attitudes which cause some undesirable outcomes. Also, educational opportunities to study abroad is limited only to the upper class children.
In order to overcome the negative aspects of this phenomena, some policy suggestions are made; 1) The meaning and the impact of the globalization as well as the proper and desirable attitude for the globalization should be included in the regular curriculum of the elementary, middle and high school. 2) By adapting the English as a dual language at the educational system, students can speak both English and Korean fluently without going-abroad. This will reduce the educational inequality among classes and will incorporate those students who depend on the private institutions for English education into the regular educational system. 3) By reforming education system more transferrable to the other countries, students can have more chances to experience other educational systems. Also, this will allow more foreign students to come to Korea to study.
