Last year was the centenary of Nietzsche's death, This article has been written in honor of him, one of the greatest thinkers of our time, Nietzsche's philosophy was a part of the extensive discussion of modernity at the turn of the 20th, Century, and had a great influence on his contemporaries. A discussion of the relationship between Simmel and Weber, on the one hand, and Nietzsche, on the other, can contribute to an understanding not only of sociology but also of the theory of modernity in general. The main reason for this is that Nietzsche's philosophy was a fundamental reflection on modern European culture and a search for an alternative form of culture. Nietzsche's philosophy was a genuine theory of modernity, Simmel interpreted Nietzsche mainly from a philosophical point of view. Weber, on the other hand, interpreted him from the point of view of empirical science. Nietzsche was a genuine anti-sociologist who criticized sociology as a decadent science. But Simmel and Weber considered sociology as important and necessary for understanding the modern world. They assumed that sociology could be based on modern concepts of self and personality. The moral philosophies of Kant and Nietzsche represent two fundamentally different theories of modern individual quantitative individualism and qualitative individualism. In respect to epistemology Simmel and Weber were in the Kantian tradition. But both distanced themselves from Kant's ethics. They attempted to incorporate Nietzsche's concepts of personality and nobility into their own modes of thought. Simmel's and Weber's theories of modernity were both close to and distant from Nietzsche's philosophy.
