This thesis is aimed at studying the relation of literature education and text selection in the case of Seo Jung-Ju's poems. Over the last sixty years of literary career Seo Jung-Ju has produced an enormous amount of works, including fifteen collections of poems and approximately one thousand pieces of poetry. Although his poetic work has been apparently undergoing a great deal of changes throughout its evolution from a first collection, A Floral Snake(1941) to last collection, Poems as an 80 boy Vagabond(1997), its enduring feature can be found in a 'eternity'.
In the process of pursuing this theme, Seo suffers a logical rupture, and writes the pro-Japanese poems. But this rupture is temporary. Because from the beginning of his poetic world, he pursued a 'eternity' and supplemented its details.
So, the measure that excepted Seo's works in a school textbook, is very irrational. His poems is very useful in education of poetry in the class of middle and high school students, in that Seo's poem is proper to learn rhythm, image, symbol theme and so on. First of all, his greatness can't be matched in any of Korean poets. He is a poet of world-wide fame.
It can be said that Seo Jung-Ju's work has given his own (and Korea's cultural) identity a new poetic expression in response to the impact of western civilization. He recreates any object as his own prospect. The world and its details work on a motive which consisting of forming 'I'. Although the objects which he describes,
are apart from one another, 'I(poet)' am still in exist in the center of them all. In this case, 'I' am on an equality with racial characteristic.
In conclusion, I suggest that we contain Seo's Jung-Ju's representative poems in a middle and high school textbooks.(Kyongju University)
