The experience of modernity changed not just conditions of life but also attitude toward death. For a long while a matter of death had belonged to private field. Bur after the experience of modernity a matter of death transferred to formal and official field. Modern official systems of death have controlled all the procedure of funeral: confirmation of death, ways of burial etc.
1930s Korean poets were the first generation those who dealt death of ordinary man as a standpoint of humanity. When they found and wrote 'death of ordinary man', the condition of human nature was not so good for materialism has devoured humanities one by one. 1930's Korean poets wrote poems about miserable death of ordinary man to unmask the essential violence of modernity.
Modern representations of death such as crematory, public Cemetery has appeared since 1930's Korean modern poetry. In Korean modern ways of funeral were introduced by J~ imperialist me 1912. The first modern official system of death was the Regulation on Public CemeteryㆍCrematoryㆍBurial and Cremation(Regulation No.123 by the government-general Chosun)
The image of crematory was dreadful in 1930's Korean modern poetry. Modern crematory could reduce to ashes hundreds of corpses at the same time and place with great speed so it has been the symbol ci the tragic of modernity in 1930s Korean modern poetry.
The image of public cemetery could sharply contrast to that of Crematory. Modern graveyard has been changed as clean and beautiful greenyard after the introduction of modern public cemetery.
