This thesis investigates the being of 'YU-IN(遊人)' who appears in the article on the Koguryo's taxation in "SU-SEO(隋書)" and suggests the character of it.
In chapter one, the existing views on 'YU-IN' are classified into four ones and the problems that each view has are pointed out. In chapter two, the illustrations that 'YU'(遊) or 'YU'(游) are used in China and Korea are surveyed to widen the interpretation of 'YU-IN'. In chapter three, it looks into the matters related with the character of 'YOUIN'.
In this thesis, 'YU-IN' may be appear in 6 to 7 century in which the contents of "SU SEO" are included. Second, the number of 'YU-IN' is not the minimum like a prostitute, a court musician, and a Chinese prisoner but an equivalent number to 'IN'. In the racial view, it belongs to the special level in the Koguryo society not to a different race outside Koguryo. 'YU-IN' pays the tax every three years. But this provision does not mean that ten 'YU-IN's pay permanently every three years, but the person who coincides with the specific qualification pays once for three years. The provision of 'per three years' in "SU SEO" is the permanent one, but the subject of a provision can be changeable per three years. Besides, 'YU-IN' pays the tax in cooperation with ten persons. It indicates that the central government grasps 'YU-IN' as a group not an individual and has them live in a definite place.
In 6 to 7century, Koguryo struggles with China, Bakjae, and Shinla. In this period, Koguryo undergoes the war continuously about for I century. As the long-tenn war goes against Koguryo, the central government controls an entire people within their influence and receives the tax by appling the tax rate different from 'IN'.
'YU-NYO' besides 'YU-IN' appears in the history book of China explaining the 6 and 7 century's Koguryo. Some scholars think that 'YU-IN' is identical to 'YU-NYO', but two subject can not be the same. Just the point that the background of appearance is the social disorder caused by a war is interested in 'YU-NYO' and suggests the possibility whether 'YU-NYO' belongs to 'YU-IN'.
