The new textbook has given a strong effort to emphasize on the aspect that the masses have contributed to the progress of history to a certain extent, as well as the effort of the ruling class to improve the livelihood of the ruled. Also, it is noticeable that the weight of the history of Kokuryo and Baekjae in the social part has been increased. The book also made some changes in making its voice more explanatory, to make students more easily understood. However, following few problems could be pointed out.
First, several major mistakes in historical facts are visible. Second, some cases include depiction of contents that has not been adequately verified by the academic circles. Third, logical inconsistency, overlapping, ambiguous execution of respective economic system's character and mutual relations are another. Last, the textbook does not clearly highlight the historical picture of ancient society.
In order to combat such problems, I have made the following suggestions. One is to allow the specialists of each respective ages of Korean history to participate in the publication of these textbooks. Also, a new writing method is necessary to effectively accomodate various theories. To avoid repetition, steps should be taken to set the title that could distinctly enhance the historical image of respective eras, and to establish writing manner to make the titles mutually related.
