In the present conditions that the cultural identity of the ancient history of Korean and traditional thoughts have not been cleared, we can't help but emphasize the importance of the anxiety and concern of the youths for the study on them.
In the positions of Korean traditional philosophy, there are two books which we can't abandon. These are 『Handan-koki』(桓擅古記 : The old history of Han and Dan) and 『Kyuwon-sahwa』(揆園史話 : The story of Tao villages ' history).
However, it is suggested that they should be the incredible books. Also the assertion was reported in newspaper. But I think that the assertion and similar report have the important defects. Because the assertion that they must be the incredible books looks like the mistakes of prejudice. An wrong text critic and the mistake of journal which flattered the biased interpretation
about the history are not desirable on the many studies of the Koreanology. Basically the text critics or the bibliography is not the same as the history. Also the right historical view is the indispensable virtue to the one who try to understand the history. The historical events and process are not
quite accidental. The history must reflect the spirit and thoughts of the times. Now and here, the problems of Korean race history and Koreannlogy need to be reexamined. The two books say that we must find the power and sovereignty of the Korean race. And they say that we should recover the capability of the
ancient Korea. We have the assignments that we ought to establish the soul of Korean and right history.
Some people say that it means a narrow-minded nationalism. Also they say that the nationalism is just chauvinism. The theory of nationalism look like the chauvinism. lnere are some special characteristics which have been found on the two books. They say that the history of China(east Asia) is the history of cultural interchange between the two races - the Chinese and the Mongolian(especially Yi(夷)-race). Also the two books say that the Mongolian and the Ural-Altaic races are the one race. And the Korean race is the one of the Mongolian. The nickname of the Korean is the Han. So I want to say that the Korean nationalism is the Han-nationalism. So the Han-nationalism is beyond the state nationalism. It aims at the great state of all nations and the cosmopolitanism based on the equality. The Korean-nationalism is not the Chauvinism or Jingoism any more. And the Han-nationalism is also not the state nationalism. Moreover the two books say the marriage of the Taoism and the Shin-kvo
(神敎:the belief of spirit and god). And they show the origin of folk religion in Korea and shamanism (巫) with the formation of Korean thoughts. The representative thought is the three one theory(三一思想: the theory that one is three, three is one). The books are the valuable fortunes in the Korean cultural sciences. We never neglect the value of them. So we must reexamine the value of the books carefully through the enough time. However, they have been treated
carelessly by many present scholars. In addition to this, generally we treat ourselves carelessly. It is like that we deny ourselves. I think that the studies by Koreans in Korea is the Koreanology (the Korean studies). If we persist in the common opinion, we cannot accept the new idea. The persistence of prejudice cannot bring the progress of new
sciences. Really the two books could be doubtful. But the doubtfulness doesn't prove the lie. Now I only suggest that we should reexamine the books carefully. I want to think about the new horizon of Koreanology. And the view on the world and nation that the books have is new idea. They have the philosophical value regardless of historical value. So the works that search for the value of them are just beginning now.
