The proportion of diesel vehicle is very high in this country. PM and NOx emitted from diesel-powered vehicle is severely affecting to the air quality. Especially, diesel particulate matters(DPM) including black smoke are hazardous air pollutants to human health and envirornment In order to reduce the exhaust emission from diesel engines, it is necessary to prepare a comprehensive management plan for emissions from diesel vehicles. The emission characteristics according to particle size as well as aftertreatment equipments were analyzed in corporation with K-nST. The number of particles from heavy-duty engines was about #107108/cm3 and particle size was in the range of 100-200 om. In the case of light-duty engines,
number of particles was about #106/cm3 and particle size was in the range of 70-200nm. The removal efficiency of fine particles for aftertreatment equipments under development was also measured. The efficiency was more than 80% for DPF type, but less than 40% for other types and sometimes the efficiency was found to be almost zero.
