The purpose of this study was to examine the general tendency of day care center(DCC) director's personality and leadership, and to determine whether personality type by MBTI affected the leadership of DCC director. Original subjects were 120 who attended in DCC director's in-service program in Chungnam province in Korea, but 26 subjects among them missed out several items. Therefore final subjects were 94 DCC directors and they answered a questionnaire(1 to 5 score, 10 items each in 3 types) about the DCC director's leadership and MBTI for personality test for themselves in a university in Chungnam province during July 19-21, 2001.
Several findings were obtained. First, ISTJ(n=30) among 16 personality types by MBTI and bureaucratic orientation among 3 leadership types were frequently observed. Second, there were significant differences in bureaucratic orientation (F=2.442, p<.01) and total leadership score(F=2.044, p<.05) according to 16 personality types of MBTI. The most bureaucratic orientation was ESTP (M=42.86, SD=3.39) and the lowest were ENFP(M=35.00, SD=1.41) and ISFJ (M=35.00, SD=2.83). In total leadership score, the highest score was ESTP(M=112.71, SD=7.27) and the lowest was ISFP(M=98.29, SD=8.56). Third, there were significant differences in humanistic orientation(F=11.885, p<.001), bureaucratic orientation(F=11.297, p<.001), and total leadership score(F=13.962, p<.0001) according to thinking-feeling preference in 4 MBTI preferences. These findings suggested that DCC director's leadership is different from their personality types.
