This paper is to investigate the narrative structure of Korean war long novel. This paper deals with six novels (long novel) published in 1960's. Under the heaven at the break of dawn(Lee, Pum~sun), Bang-a-gol revolution(O, You-kwon), The ice age(Song, Pyeng-soo), A long journey toward night(Kang, Yong-joon), A Camp of D-day(Hong, Sung-won), The broken bridge(Jeong, Han-suk). These six novels consider Korean war as a central material. They contain common features such as the point that postwar young generations had presented, and the point that they regard anti-Communism as the subject. This paper intends to examine the descriptive aspect to figure the fact of historical experience as novel.
The plot and the conclusion of the object works are divided into three aspects such as <the plot of solution and the conclusion of a gun-shot>, <the plot of disclosure and the conclusion of a sigh>, and <the plot of evaluation and the conclusion of a promise>. Each plot and conclusion can be named as the structure of representation, the structure of pessimism, and the structure of prospect, the criterion is very consciousness of narrator who encounters to historical facts. Each work presents the pattern of structure necessary to figure the war, at the same time, reveals the limit on the structure.
The works which have the structure of representation(Under the haven at the break of dawn, Bang-a-gol revolution) realistically represent the battle scene, and show the attempt to represent the work whole allegorically. The war, however, remains only the material in each work. The works to contain the structure of pessimism(The ice age, The long journey toward night) present the intention to interpret the war in the current view, yet the criticism descents the. individual pessimism because of an excessive emotion, the individual doesn't implicate the representation of the time. The works to present the structure of prospect(A Camp of D~day, The broken bridge) suggest maturative consciousness to understand the war as the present pre-history, yet the wish of youth protagonist in A Camp of D-day is very strange in a realistic view. The protagonist in the prime in The broken bridge make a fine show in the fact to recognize the current situation objectively, however, the descriptive strategy doesn't support realism and strain.
The conclusion resulting from the analysis of war long novel in 1960's, representation, criticism, and evaluation must be cooperate to shape historical facts as an artificial form. To understand history as the present pre-history is to interpret the current issue.
