Ths study is concerned with figurative character of Shin Dong Yeop'(신동엽)s poems. The poems of Shin Dong Yeop are composed of metonymical contiguity and synecdoche generalization.
In the case of metonomy, He establishes binary opposition and collects objects strictly toward the two points. In his poem roughly synecdoches are found in positive group, and metonymies in negative group. In the case of synecdoche, he expresses general discourse through partial one. He likes to use the synecdoche which shows a person with the parts of his body. As the result, the person has an attribute of so-called ideal entirety. Hence synecdoches in his poems are observed in positive group. There is rarely metaphorical structure in them(Metaphors in his poems are defined as the first function that modifies poetic diction, because his poetry has declaratory quality).
Shin Dong Yeop indicates oppressors with metonymical things, and does lively people by expressing ideal entirety with synecdoche persons or the parts of whole body. Such structure goes well with inflammatory style. Declaratory quality of his poetry is sprung up from metomymical aggressiveness to oppressors and synecdoche love toward people.
