This thesis starts from why Kim WooJin suicided with his lover Yoon SimDeog. This question is not a new one. A lot of scholars tried to answer the question. As a result their suicides result from romantic and tragic suicides which were not allowed to accept their anti-moral love. This answer has been seemed to be natural and probable from their suicide until at least the middle of 1980's, even though Kim WooJin's family disapprove it obstinately at that time. By the way most recently The interest of Kim WooJin's life and literature was reappeared and at the same time the question of Kim WooJin's suicide was raised again. A new main answer is that at least Kim WooJin never want to suicide and as his pessimistic lover Yoon SimDeog incited him, inevitably he suicided with his lover. Another answer is death by accident, say, a desease like a fit of epilepsy. But this new answer is never correct.
This thesis doesn't focus on two lovers and the moment of their suicide and the method of their suicide, but on Kim WooJin and how his death consciousness is set up.
On the basis that his materials combined languages of life with languages of death, I tried to unify contradiction between two languages. Kim WooJin's death consciousness was founded in a series of poems written from May in 1926 that dealt with death, fear of life and so on. This death consciousness will result from several elements, above all is needed to focus on the writer's attitudes that recognizes world and history. On this point of view I found two elements that strongly drove him into death. First, as his inconsistent consciousness, his philosophical thought collides with his historical consciousness. Second, his genius complex. At least since he was a child he had longed for genius, especially artist-genius like Shakespeare, Ibsen, Benard Shaw etc. On this point of view we think of his two extreme actions as genius actions. Two actions are his leaving home life and his suicide with his lover. They were the most important thing in his life.
