This paper describes on the linguistic variation of the Korean of the Hunchun region of Yanbian Which is one of the varieties of Yukcin dialect of Korean, focusing on that in tyV sequences. The variants of them can be divided into several groups: palatalized forms, y-deleted forms,[y? > ye > e] forms, and each of the intermediate forms among those. Interestingly, the common point of all of those forms is that they avoid tyV sequencing. In other words, the change in tyV sequences, i.e. t-palatalization and y-deletion can be interpreted as different outcomes from the same constraint which prohibits tyV sequencing. This suggests that we can find the motivations of t-palatalization and y-deletion in respect to this kind of syllable structure constraint.
This paper asserts that the variation in tyV sequences results from the conspiracy of the two rules, t-palatalization rule and y-deletion rule which are both in competing and bleeding relations. It is supposed that the target of the conspiracy is to avoid tyV sequencing which are relatively constrained in Hunchun Korean.
