The purpose of the study is to find the characteristics and the problems of color environment by questionnaires and analyses, and to present a basic data for making color palette in rural area. The concept of the study is as follows: Firstly, the color field surveys in rural area for natural environment and artificial environment were operated. The analysis results showed that the buildings' color did not harmonize with the surrounding, a problem which can not be ignored. Secondly, the problems, such as high-chroma of roof color, artificial material and form, damaged buildings, high color contrast of dominate color and roof color, were found from the questionnaires. And there is little of locational characteristic in the color coordination by location type. So, in terms of the objective and quantitative results from evaluationg experiment classified y location type, the aim of the study is to make a color guide which is can be used in various location types.
