Recently, as the driving time of automobiles has increased and ergonomics and engineering have emerged, the need for comfortable automobiles to reduce the fatigue of drivers has increased day by day, and comfort has become an important factor with great potential to enhance the competitiveness of vehicle purchasing. In order to evaluate automobile seat cushion comfort, SAE J 2896 is a recommended test method for objectively evaluating the performance characteristics of automobile seats associated with occupant support, penetration of cushions and comfort. However, it is not clearly presented how to use specific data to evaluate comfort using data from each of the two tests. and It is only measured by the resultant data for the finally made seat. In this study, we pay attention to the stiffness of the cushion as a design variable that can be connected to comfort. In the case of cushion pads, non-linear characteristics, so the seated person experiences the comfort they experience depending on the applied load value. Therefore, obtaining more detailed information about stiffness can give useful information to seat designers. In addition, stiffness, which is a physical property design factor, is proposed so that seat comfort can be considered in the design phase, and stiffness is derived by linking point load data and body pressure distribution(BPD) data. the obtained stiffnesses were applied to two commercial seats and compared with the results of BPD analysis, which is an existing measure of comfort.
