스미스의 예전적 인간론은 예배가 성화와 정치신학의 핵심임을 강조한다. 또한 여기서 인간의 구성요소들의 통전적인 역할을 강화한다. 스미스의 예전적 철학은 한 마디로 물질의 철학이라고 할 수 있는데, 그는 예전의 피조성 즉 시간과 공간의 중요성을 부각시키며, 하나님이 바로 이 피조성 속으로 내려오셔서 일하신다고 주장한다. 이는 하나님의 초월성을 위해 세계의 피조성을 상쇄시키는 방식과 다르며, 오히려 하나님이 자신을 낮추셔서 인간을 만나러 찾아오시는 그 언약적 자리를 훼손시키지 않는 방식으로 하나님의 겸손과 능력을 더욱 드러낸다. 스미스의 예전적 인간론은 이러한 기독교의목적과 형성적 능력을 강화하고, 전인적이고 물질적인 인간론을 제시한다.
따라서 본 논문은 스미스의 예전적 인간론의 유효성을 세 가지로 든다. 첫째, 성화와 정치신학에 있어 인간의 제일 된 목적의 역할을 격상시킨다는 것이고, 둘째, 기존의 인간론보다 더 통전적이며, 셋째, 인간론에 대한 정태적인 설명에서 그치지 않고 동태적이고 형성적인 설명을 제시한다는 것이다. 다시 요약하면, 목적성, 통전성, 형성성이라고 하겠다.
