ABSTRACT

A Qualitative Research on the Exploring Leadership Factors by Successful Group Exercise Leaders

The purpose of this study was to explore what leadership factors were recognized by successful GX leaders and to suggest a leadership model for GX leadership based on these findings. In order to achieve these objectives, mixed methodology using survey and ethnographic method were conducted. Open-ended questionnaires were conducted by 20 selected leaders who had at least 10 years of GX teaching experiences, and in-depth interviews by 14 selected leaders were sequentially conducted to verify and supplement the results of questionnaires. Subjects who were lived in Seoul and Kyunggido were selected by snowball sampling as purposive sampling. In-depth interviews were conducted 3 times, interview times were ranged from 40-60 minitues. Data analysis were inductive analysis and triangulation and expert review process were conducted for research''s reliability and validity. The conclusions obtained from these methods and results were as follows. First, the main leadership characteristics required for GX leaders were attitude, teaching knowledge, knowledge and learning, expertise, and business administration and management. In particular, among these factors, it was confirmed that some leadership factors such as human relationship, organizational attachment, teaching method, interpersonal relationship, educational power, music and rhythm, self development, practical skill, education and learning, SNS & Youtube, related certification, member management, marketing, family issues were identified as the virtues that the GX leader must have as a leader. Second, a leadership model for GX leadership was suggested based on these findings. These five factors were necessary for leadership virtues of leader and it was confirmed that leaders with virtues such as leadership were ultimately positive factors for reaching the path toward the center’s management efficiency.
