The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderation effect of teacher support between children''s perception of parent overprotection and children''s covert narcissism. A sample of 280 children in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades elementary school in N city, Jeonbuk. The children''s covert narcissism(Kwak, Hong, Han, 2010) was used to assess children''s covert narcissism, The parents overprotection(Jeong,2008)wasusedtoexamine parents overprotection, The teacher support(Lim, 2015) was used to assess teacher support as perceived by the child. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Cronbach''α, independent sample t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson''s correlation analysis, hierarchical multiple regression analysis using SPSS 25.0 program.


The major findings were as follows:

First, covert narcissism did not show any difference according to gender and grade. The parent''s overprotection showed differences according to gender and the boy was higher than the girl but there was no difference according to grade. And teacher''s support did not differ according to gender and grade.
Second, parents overprotection showed a positive correlation with the children''s covert narcissism. This means that the more parents are overprotected, the higher the children''s covert narcissism. And teacher support did not correlate with children''s covert narcissism. However, emotional support and practical support among sub-factors of teacher support showed negative correlations with exploitation and aggression among sub-factors of children''s covert narcissism. The more emotional and practical support teachers have, the lower the characteristic of covert narcissism of the children.
Third, teacher support was found to moderate the effects of father''s overprotection on the children''s covert narcissism. This means that teacher support decreased the children''s covert narcissism. On the other hand, teacher support did not seem to moderate the effects of mother''s overprotection on the children''s covert narcissism. it was said that mother''s overprotection is more predictive of the children''s covert narcissism than the teacher support, because it still has a lot of influenced by mother in elementary school upper grades.
